ELIZABETH LAWRENCE Starwood Scholar 2009
Guyanese / Antiguan
First of all I must thank the CHTAEF and Starwood for the scholarship that was given to me. Being at the Culinary Institute of America was a great experience for me with all the students, culinarians, professors, chefs, pro-chefs etc it was an exciting time for me.
David Bruno who is a professor and a chef taught me the Fundamental of Baking Techniques. That class was outstanding some of the skills in baking and pastry art I didn’t had a clue about but I recognized more than I thought I would in one week and had great deal fun. I’m looking forward in the future for the other courses because unfortunately some of my classes were cancelled. I was so disappointed; however the friendliness of the CIA staff and the service I received was incredible, I appreciate the knowledge and experience there. Thank-you CHTAEF and Starwood for your help in assisting me to develop my career and I will surely apply again as I wish to take the courses that were canceled this year. This is not the end of my journey there is still a lot more for me to learn, but without no doubt. I’m certainly positively sure for the passion I have for baking and pastry, I would be a successful and professional chef in the near future.
