Vanessa Dopwell, Grenadian – General Academic Scholar 2009
Associates in Hospitality Management
I will be ever grateful to CHTA Education Foundation for the assistance given in my development in the hospitality and tourism industry. So far, I have been able to maintain a grade point average of over 3.2 and am keenly looking forward to my final semester at Trinidad & Tobago Hospitality Institute (THTI) in 2010.
Tertiary education is not a walk in the park! It is more like believing in you and working daily to achieve that special prize. Personally, for me in a lot of cases it involved matching experience with knowledge. Staying focus involved meeting deadlines, attending group meetings, completing assignments on time, attending classes and participating in extra curricula activities (fun stuff). In some cases taking the initiative and motivating others to achieve their full potential.
At TTHTI, I was the Class Representative for one year. It was not always easy but I survived the challenge. I was also a member of a Fitness group and a volunteer in an outreach program. Whilst at school I also worked part-time at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain where I was able to gain a lot of experience and acquired new skills for the hospitality industry.
I have just completed my mid-term examinations and is now preparing for final projects, presentations and examinations. Currently, I am leading a team that will be putting out the school’s Newsletter.
All in all my time at TTHTI thus far has been very productive and I now look forward to moving on next year & obtaining my Bachelors degree at the Florida International University – yes, I will be reapplying!
Once again to all at CHTA Education Foundation a heartfelt thank you and best wishes.
