CHTA Education Foundation has been on the ground in Port au Prince since 2010 and is delivering education & skills training to surviving hotel school students through extensive Caribbean volunteer time & expertise coupled with the ability to purchase equipment, supplies and English teaching through our donors. We are the only entity targeting this group of survivors at present. Many groups are interested in building a new hotel school but don't wish to clear the extensive rubble first. We see our role as temporary - a resource for the development of young Haitians wishing to join our industry until facilities open in Port au Prince & environs.

Some feedback from students after the initial CHTAEF Training & Assessment Day on 21 October 2010.

2010 was a year of deep loss yet great abiding hope and strength of spirit in Haiti. The Hotel School was lost and few students survived. The hotels operating in Port au Prince do so under difficult conditions & have lost some staff to the earthquake.

Haitian Hoteliers reached out to CHTAEF for assistance in growing the surviving students, tourism & hotel workers skills and knowledge of the industry. The Haitian Government has identified tourism as a priority axis for sustainable long-term development.

We have created a special & separate CHTAEF-Haiti Fund – and you can donate money, product & services by clicking the button at the top of this page.

CHTAEF-Haiti Fund needs to raise US$400,000 in money & in-kind donations to achieve our Help & Hope project which began in 2010 and completes its first cycle in 2014. The project is being led by Haitian Hotelier Agnes Pierre-Louis & Trustees Tom Pas & Louise John. Practical support for Phase One has come from the energetic Haitian Hotel Community, Bench Events, Questex, EHL and Hilton in the Community Foundation UK. These entities continue their support for Phase Two with added generosity from the Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives (CSHAE).

Help & Hope beginning November 2010 & continuing, we wish to:

• Valentines Day to June 2011 - Delivered Intensive conversational Hospitality English classes to certificate level for all surviving hotel students and selected hotel workers
• August to December 2011 - Deliver Hospitality Skills Training, Basic Tourism Knowledge & Core Customer Service Skills Training to surviving students & selected hotel workers in Haiti
• Fall 2011 - Deliver Resume Techniques & Interview Skills Training
• Fall 2011 - Facilitate Professional Plan Assessments of the students & place them at suitable regional institutions from 2012 late 2011
