The Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) has confirmed a number of speakers and panelists for the 12th annual Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference (CHTIC), May 6-8, 2008. The event will take place at the expansive, modern conference center in the newly developed Hyatt Regency Trinidad, featuring informative plenary sessions on the financial issues of Caribbean hospitality. CHTIC will begin at 6pm on May 6, with opening keynote addresses from CHA President, Peter Odle, Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Chairman, Senator the Hon. Allen M. Chastanet, and local representatives. CHA has lined up a comprehensive program of workshops and sessions over the course of May 7-8, including presentations on current forecasts for the economy and hotel industry, and a special outlook on the capital markets, focusing on lenders as well as investors and equity. In line with the increased emphasis of “green” practices in the tourism industry, CHA is featuring a series of Going Green-themed Breakout Sessions focusing on the financial aspects of operating an environmentally safe hotel or tourism business. In addition, a number of helpful Development Track Workshops will provide delegates with a wealth of information in an interactive environment. Turks & Caicos to Create 'Green Island'
The Turks & Caicos Islands is to give the Caribbean region its first “green island” in the near future as part of the government’s sustainable tourism programme, Premier, Dr. Michael Misick has said. The 2.5 mile island of Salt Cay, once the center of Bermuda's salt industry and the mainstay of the Turks & Caicos economy from the late 1600’s until the early 1960’s, has been chosen to be transformed into the “green island,” Premier Misick said at a news conference launching a public awareness campaign for the 10th Annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development (STC-10) to be held in Providenciales from April 28- May 1. The conference, organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), in collaboration with CHA, features the theme: Keeping the Right Balance: Sustaining the Caribbean Coastal Product.
