CHA Plans Events for September
Two of the most popular CHA events are being planned for September 2008. Details are being finalized for the annual “Small Hotels Retreat” and “Taste of the Caribbean” culinary competition. Sponsor, Display and program activities will be announced soon.
Maureen Bowers, CHA Foundation Scholarship Recipient 2005 Gives Back in Antigua
Maureen Bowers, a former CHA Education Foundation Scholarship Recipient in 2005, is basking in the CHA Foundation limelight following her idea on giving back to the Foundation that helped her along. Maureen created and proposed a six-week part-time pastry course to the Foundation in order to provide basic skills to teenagers and others wishing to enter the hospitality industry in the culinary field. The first 18 students have just completed the course with enthusiasm and excitement. Maureen originally benefited from the CHA Foundation Scholarship by completing a seven-week Pastry & Bread Skills course at the Culinary Institute of America. She then decided to give back to her island of Antigua by training others. Maureen has worked her way through the ranks of several Antiguan properties including the Royal Antiguan and Carlisle Bay. She now heads the pastry shop at Hermitage Hotel, an exclusive ‘away from it all’ boutique resort.
The CHA Education Foundation applauds Maureen for her talent, initiative and willingness to learn and pass her knowledge on. We are delighted to have been part of her professional development process. Visit the CHA website for more information on scholarship opportunities within the CHA Education Foundation. go >
